We are actively searching for a Systems Engineer to join our growing team and be involved at the forefront of electric and fuel cell vehicle development.

Job Description

This role involves integration of fuel cell power systems (both fuel cell stacks and balance of plant), conducting risk assessments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate safety measures, and verifying compliance with industry standards and regulations. Also participating in the development of safety guidelines, conducting thorough analysis of potential hazards, and proposes solutions to mitigate risks. Excellent technical, analytical and communication skills are crucial for success in this position.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Determine requirements for, investigate and manage the implementation of safety systems for hydrogen multi-stack fuel cell modules and their container including testing on-site.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams - eliciting the best from a diverse set of project contributors, engineering, analytical, practical and commercial, customer (and possibly also Class and Flag organisations).
  • Co-ordinate the execution of (and support their delivery to relevant authorities):
    • Maximum probability leakage scenario
    • Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) associated with the probability of catastrophic failures outside the remit of IEC 60079-10-1
    • Fire detection, suppression and explosion containment: strategy, supplier selection, ship integration following rules & regs.
    • Leakage detection strategy and determination of the "time to detect"
  • Investigate and define the requirements for further safety related activity in addition to those introduced by the RBC process (e.g. SCA - SW Conformity Approval, FuSa analysis)
  • Contribute to suppliers' liaison for parts specific to this system.
  • Candidate will be involved at all steps of the system design V-cycle for requirements elicitation, analysis and decomposition following a top-down system approach.
    • Requirements capture and management, product definition, system and sub-system design and development, supplier identification, sourcing and management, build and commission prototypes & test and verification.
  • Understands and works within project financial targets, time schedules and manages and prioritises all tasks required. Communicates issues to Project Manager and Chief Engineer as they arise and assists in developing responses to those issues.

Qualification Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline (System, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, etc).
  • Minimum 5-10 years of related experience
  • Technical familiarity with fuel cells, electrical systems, control systems and software development.
  • Some level of knowledge of maritime rules and regulations for conventional (and ideally decarbonisation) technologies.
  • Proven capacity to swiftly study and apprise safety standards and regulations with familiarity of risk assessment methodologies preferred.
  • Able to define the requirements of a process which may be previously unknown and translate this into required inputs, scope of work and intermediate deliverables.
  • Knowledge of systems requirements software preferred.
  • Strong ability to apply fundamental engineering principles.
