Role Purpose :

  • The Chief Physicist will be responsible for providing Subject Matter Expertise to support delivery of both internal and customer funded projects & products. They will be the technical authority on physics aspects, provide technical governance, support, guidance, and expertise to internal project teams, business development teams, and senior management, as well as via consultancy to third parties.

Responsibilities:

  • Technically lead & support delivery of both internal and customer funded projects & products.
  • Able to act as Technical Authority on Products and Projects.
  • Represent the business at conferences and seminars.
  • Directly support and oversee resolution of project technical issues within Engineering.
  • Work closely with project management and engineering teams to ensure projects' technical requirements are met.
  • Review and verify technical reports, drawings and designs for safety, functionality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead customer technical engagement, via sales/business development functions
  • Carry out all work ethically, safely and in accordance with the relevant standards and best practice within the nuclear industry.
  • Advise and mentor both junior and senior team members.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as and when required.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • A higher level Physics/Applied Mathematics degree (Masters or equivalent level of experience in a scientific role).
  • Significant knowledge and/or implementation experience in at least one of the following areas, with experience in some of the other areas advantageous.
  • Nuclear/Reactor Physics
  • Nuclear Instrumentation
  • Nuclear engineering
  • Radiation Metrology
  • Medical Physics
  • Radiometry
  • Particle Physics
  • Ultra High Vacuum
  • A PhD in a relevant field would be highly advantageous, but not required
  • Additional experience within a regulated industry (e.g. Nuclear, pharmaceutical, Aerospace, etc.) would be highly advantageous, but not required
  • High level of computer literacy (Microsoft Office incl. Excel & data analysis)
  • Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills
  • Highly confident in own knowledge and understanding
  • Able to make technically informed and balanced judgements
  • Ideally membership of appropriate professional and industry bodies.
