Job description
Our Water sector construction client is seeking a Carbon and Sustainability Specialist to join their Anglian Water @one alliance framework in Peterborough.
Within the UK, infrastructure is associated with 50% of the Greenhouse Gas emissions, 30% of which is attributed to the construction, operation, and maintenance of assets. Over the last decade the @one Alliance has delivered world leading results; halving the capital carbon within the assets that it builds and working collaboratively with Anglian Water to significantly reduce its operational carbon footprint.
This role is therefore vital in supporting the Alliance to continue to push the boundaries when it comes to reducing carbon and cost and to ensure they are aspiring to deliver zero carbon emissions as a delivery entity over the coming years.
In this role you will support the development and implementation of our @one Alliance carbon strategy and support teams in the delivery of our Carbon and Sustainability targets. You will take an active role in developing an @one Alliance carbon and sustainability 'brand', including leading a carbon champions group, and create and sharing engaging carbon and sustainability information.
Responsibilities
- Work with both the @one Alliance Head of Innovation & Carbon and Carbon & Sustainability Manager to support the delivery of a strategy to enable the @one Alliance to deliver:
- 70% reduction in Capital Carbon against 2010 baseline by 2025
- >27% reduction in Operation Carbon against 2020 baseline by 2025
- Net Zero operational carbon by 2030
- Broader zero carbon emissions aspirations (including climate change resilience)
- >40% renewables target by 2025 and beyond.
- Develop positive and proactive working relationships with project teams to become one of the 'go to' individuals for carbon and sustainability knowledge to help project teams to deliver on targets.
- Support project teams to calculate carbon emissions on projects, analyse them and see opportunities
- Support design and delivery teams to maximise the Six Capitals benefits of their projects.
- Attend project meetings to ensure that Carbon & Sustainability has a 'voice at the table'.
- Undertake detailed lifecycle and whole life carbon assessments of projects and products to ensure any trade-offs are fully understood.
- Work on innovation projects and attend monthly carbon review meetings
Skills/experience
- Ideally degree level educated (Industry related), with experience in carbon accounting and management (ideally circa. 2 years).
- You will have an understanding of relevant industry standards and directives and how they need to be applied(i.e. PAS2080).
- An understanding of the wider corporate Net Zero landscape would be an advantage.
- You will use your excellent understanding of key concepts and practices in carbon reduction to aid you to become the recognised 'go to' person for other Alliance Teams on carbon and sustainability issues.
- By working with project teams, you will upskill them and yourself to ensure that carbon and sustainability issues are fully considered throughout the project lifecycle.
- You have a passion for carbon reduction, sustainability and challenging the norm, and have excellent stakeholder management and presentation skills. You are a self-starter, resilient, adaptable and able to overcome blockers.
