My Client is recruiting for an Assistant/Mechanical Engineer in the Water Sector

Summary of role:

Under the direction of the Principal Mechanical Engineer and Engineering Manager:

  • The Mechanical Engineer will provide the technical deliverables, required in the delivery process for a variety of Company products and systems associated with the treatment of wastewater.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for design verification and engineering of company Wastewater systems in accordance with client specifications, National and International and company standards.
  • The Mechanical Engineer will be significantly involved in the execution phase of the project as well as providing support during the commissioning stages. The role includes design co-ordination with other internal engineering disciplines, including sales and proposals departments.
  • The role will require communication with suppliers and external clients within the UK and abroad as required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Interpret the customer's technical requirements and become familiar with contract specifications to ensure compliant Company designs in the detailed engineering execution, this includes discussing the brief with others as required by complexity and client needs.
  • Key technical deliverables will include equipment data sheets, schedules, technical specification documents, material selection, detailed calculations, Hydraulic designs, P&ID's, Operation and Maintenance manuals etc., for the equipment associated with the wastewater products and systems such as pumps, tanks, mixers, scrapers, and pipeline sizes etc., based upon the process design documents such as Process Flow Diagram, Process Design Basis and Mass Balance.
  • Selection and detailing of valves, instruments, and equipment schedules
  • Technical appraisals of supplier proposals and designs providing a recommendation to project manager.
  • Responsible for supplying input information to the Design team in preparation of plant 3D models and layout drawings including civil construction requirement details, pipework system designs, chemical storage and transfer system arrangements, compressed air treatment systems and pneumatic controls system designs.
  • Reviewing and commenting or accepting suppliers design submissions to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues during design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, and operation of Company products and systems, and liaise with customers with respect to legacy design issues.
  • To comply with, support and develop the Company Quality Assurance System - BS EN:ISO 9001:2008
  • To take due account of the responsibilities for the designer under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (2015) in eliminating hazards and mitigating risks in all Company product and system design work.
  • To assist the mechanical design team and others in the implementation of company QA procedures regarding Engineering Design Document Control Procedures and assist in the maintenance of the document control system, Technical Construction File with and awareness of CE and UKCA requirements.
  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness and knowledge of various water treatment processes, plant and equipment types and associated suppliers that may be associated or influence the design of Company products or systems.
  • Ensuring adherence to internal departmental procedures in particular the Design Review process.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • An Engineering qualification at Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent, this should be in a mechanical discipline
  • Experience within the UK Wastewater industry or similar process related industry
  • Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions which may be presented in diagrammatic form and deal with technically factual information as well as information which is open to interpretation
  • To be able to represent themselves and the company directly with the customer in a professional manner
  • Good problem-solving ability and possess a creative approach for new ideas
  • Ideally experience with structural steelwork construction and design. Experience of pipe & structural steelwork welding methods, codes and techniques
  • Ideally Knowledge and experience of Risk Assessments, HAZOP
  • Ideally A good understanding of the cost of Engineering
  • Ideally Experience of 3D design requirements [Inventor Preferred]
