Job description
Our Water construction client is seeking a Health and Safety Manager to work across the Thames Valley region on their Thames Water framework out of their Reading office.
Previous management experience in health and safety is essential. You will have primary responsibility to ensure health and safety management systems and arrangements are at the forefront of best practice. They will provide assurance that these management systems and arrangements are applied across our clients' business consistently to effectively control the risks of activities across the company.
Responsibilities
Health & Safety Management Systems & Processes:
- Review, revise and publish health and safety management systems processes and forms, that ensure the company effectively meets its health and safety policy commitments, and legal obligations.
- Consider and respond to feedback on company systems, processes, and forms.
- Point of contact, monitoring of service and resolution of any problems with external specialist system providers (currently Sypol for COSHH assessments and Cardinus for DSE assessment).
- Be the lead on the development of new company health and safety systems and initiatives as identified and required.
Health & Safety Internal Compliance:
- Develop internal audit process that ensures all business units of the company effectively meet the health and safety policy commitments, and legal obligations through proper implementation of the management systems and processes.
- Develop an audit process that ensures that any joint ventures have management systems and processes that effectively meets the health and safety policy commitments, and legal obligations through proper implementation of the management systems and processes.
- Manage the audit process including establishing a program, undertaking audits, producing audit reports, raising, and monitoring close out of NCR's.
- Produce monthly report of audit performance.
External Compliance:
- Develop regime of supplier's audits, for high-risk suppliers and other suppliers as necessary;
Once developed undertake all aspects of the above, liaising with central procurement department and suppliers, as necessary. - Investigate and pursue if appropriate any opportunities to generate income through above.
- Produce monthly report of supplier audit progress and performance.
Skills/experience/qualifications
- Minimum NEBOSH Health and Safety Diploma.
- Member of IOSH or IIRSM with up-to-date CPD;
- International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA) accredited OH&S lead and internal auditor training.
- Certified by the International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA).
- Environmental training/qualification (desirable).
- Member of IEMA (desirable).
- Enthusiastic in promoting first class health & safety standards.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work independently and autonomously.
- Ability to communicate and influence effectively with a range of people.
- Ability to self-manage to ensure a consistently high level of output.
