Job description
Role Purpose
To direct and manage a small team of 4-5 Project Engineers to:
undertake programmes of highway improvement works and other projects which may involve co-ordination with other design disciplines (e.g. traffic signals and structural designers) and
provide project management of schemes designed and supervised in other teams or through packages let to a consultant in the professional services framework.
You will report as appropriate to the Principal Engineer and Group Manager.
Role Responsibilities
To manage Project Engineers to ensure that projects are delivered using the correct internal processes and design standards,
To be responsible for the technical, contractual and commercial matters for all aspects of the projects.
To act or supervise others in the role of project manager.
To carry out appraisals of your team.
To ensure that project engineers manage the financial aspects of their schemes

To liaise with Councillors, the Public and other Groups within WCC on all aspects concerning the delivery of the scheme
To have responsibility to calculate fee proposals for S278 work and other external Clients. To discuss these proposals with Developers, monitor the costs and ensure that the S278 process runs smoothly.
To monitor progress and costs of projects and advise the Principal Engineer on the effective use of resources in the highways team
Organise/ attend liaison meetings with Transport Planning Unit, Legal and Finance.
To be responsible for the effective handling of complaints
To advise on improvements to the Quality Management System.
