Job description

Solar and Battery Environment Manager
Introduction
Our client has a Solar and Battery portfolio with a significant pipeline of projects at various stages of early development and construction that will contribute to their target of 1 GW energy capacity by 2027.
They are seeking to recruit an experienced Environmental Manager for an initial 12-month period on a full time 5-day week basis, to cover several post-planning consent Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) priority projects in the north of England.


Responsibilities
Working as part of the Renewables Onshore Environment Team, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing environmental management and advisory support to Solar PV and BESS projects post-consent documentation;
  • Liasion with stakeholders, including regulators, environmental agencies for all environmental aspects of the project;
  • Working closely with multi-disciplinary solar and battery project teams, including sustainability subject matter experts within the wider Sustainability Team to ensure best sustainable practice is embedded in the projects;
  • Managing monitoring and surveying work and associated contractors/contracts, evaluating contractor reports and RAMS, preparing and submitting compliance documentation including site environmental audits and inspections;
  • Investigation of environmental hazards and incidents, ensuring prevention of further harm, resolution where possible and rolling out lessons learned to the wider business and relevant contractors.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • support of projects' mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) commitments on site;
  • attending Health, Safety and Environmental meetings, as required, as well as daily/weekly operations planning meetings;
  • support with managing Environmental/ Ecological Clerks of Works (EnCoW/ECoW) and other specialist consultants i.e. Archaeological Clerk of Works (ACoW) as required;
  • monitoring and reporting on Contractors' site work compliance with agreed procedures;
  • preparation and delivery of workshops and Tool Box Talks (TBT) on site.

Experience and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Environmental Science, Environmental Management or an Environmental Engineering Degree;
  • Extensive expertise (5 years minimum) in environmental management, environmental construction management and a broad knowledge of environmental legislation and policy, particularly in England.
  • A Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IEMA or CIEEM);
  • A commercial aptitude and a broad understanding of project development / construction pressures;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential as is the ability to comfortably deal with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external
  • Ideally based in England as regular site visits will be expected.

Knowledge of Solar and Battery technologies would be an advantage but is not essential as long as there is a willingness to learn.
