Job description
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years as a Marine Carpenter or Shipwright, with a proven history of successful design, construction, maintenance, and repair of marine vessels.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficient with woodworking tools (both hand and mechanical), and knowledgeable in materials such as hardwoods, laminates, acrylics, and composites. Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and drawings.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in diagnosing and resolving issues with interior and exterior cabinetry, windows, and related systems.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous in fabrication and repairs, ensuring that all work meets or exceeds yacht build standards.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with team members, management, and vessel owners. Strong English literacy is required for detailed work reports.
- Flexibility: Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, and respond to emergency situations as needed.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working in confined spaces or varying weather conditions.
- Interpersonal Skills: Professionalism, a positive attitude, and strong teamwork abilities.
- Tools: Must possess basic hand and power tools to perform most tasks outside the workshop.
Responsibilities:
- Fabrication and Construction: Design and create interior and exterior woodwork, including the construction of living spaces in cabins and other yacht areas.
- Cabinetry Work: Joinery and fabrication using hardwoods, laminates, acrylics, and composites.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Perform repairs and maintenance, including window, hatch, and door system replacements.
- Decking Systems: Repair, remove, and construct traditional and composite decking systems, such as Teak, Flexiteek, and Sea Dek.
- Technical Expertise: Stay updated on marine carpentry tools, equipment, and best practices to maintain high standards and innovative solutions.
- Workshop Maintenance: Keep the workshop clean and dust-free, and perform maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Team Collaboration: Work with marine mechanics, engineers, and crew to coordinate maintenance schedules and improve operational efficiency.
- Emergency Response: Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, troubleshooting and repairing critical systems to ensure vessel safety.
- Equipment Evaluation: Assess marine equipment, recommending upgrades or replacements to enhance performance and compliance.
Additional Information:
- Work Permit: The work permit process takes around 3-4 months, and is provided by the company. If you leave within the first year, you will be required to reimburse the work permit costs.
