Job description
Our client is looking for a Building Control Manager to oversee their Building Control service, ensuring operational excellence and effective management across all aspects of building regulation compliance and enforcement. This pivotal role is suited for a contemporary leader who is keen to drive transformation within the council's Building Control department, delivering on the promise of safety and sustainability in the District.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and professional leadership for the Building Control Team, focusing on innovative, outcome-driven approaches.
- Lead the assessment and processing of complex Building Control applications, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations.
- Undertake professional duties including site visits, assessments, documentation, and issuing timely decisions.
- Engage and represent the Council on national changes to Building Regulation legislation.
- Manage the delivery of Building Control advice to the public, council services, and external stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of legislative changes in Building Regulations and communicate impacts effectively.
- Utilise IT systems for maintaining and enhancing records and files.
- Administer and act on matters related to dangerous or dilapidated structures, including emergency cover protocols.
- Lead budget management for the Building Control Team, ensuring resources are effectively allocated.
- Enhance client relationships and implement income generation strategies.
- Develop and manage the enforcement function, ensuring compliance and addressing non-conformities.
- Compile statistical returns and ensure compliance with operational standards.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the Council as part of the Planning and Place Management team.
Job Requirements:
- Substantial experience in building control management, particularly within council or public sector environments.
- In-depth knowledge of Class 4 Building Control and other relevant regulations.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team effectively.
- Proficient in the latest digital technology used for record keeping and data management.
- Exceptional communication skills, with proficiency in engaging with government agencies and public inquiries.
- Proactive in personal and professional development of team members and self.
