Job description
Our local authority client is currently seeking a Principal Planner (Strategic Sites) on a contract basis. The role is based within the Strategic Sites Team, which is a dedicated and supportive team of approximately 20 experienced professionals. This team is responsible for ensuring the delivery of a sustainable future for the Borough. They oversee large-scale projects related to growth sites allocated in Local Plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Strategic Sites Accelerator Pilot Project, facilitating two pilot schemes focusing on accelerated delivery.
- Assess how different development projects can be accelerated through the planning system, from pre-application engagement through to delivery.
- Serve as the day-to-day lead for the Accelerator Pilot Project, ensuring effective programme reporting to managers.
- Play an active and co-ordinating role in the Accelerator Pilot Project Focused Steering Group and Working Group.
- Work with council officers, master developers, planning consultants, and other relevant consultees to understand the planning processes through project-based assessment.
- Ensure key tasks and target dates are delivered in accordance with agreed milestones.
- Engage with DLUHC and provide updates on project progress.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in planning policy and strategic site management.
- Demonstrable project management skills.
- Strong understanding of planning processes and local government policies.
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team of professionals.
