Job description
Job Purpose:
- Provide expertise in design and advise on clients' building services system requirements across various building types, including schools and commercial offices.
- Ensure projects under their control are monitored and managed in alignment with the Consultancy's commercial goals.
- Plan, monitor, and manage multiple projects within budget, meeting quality standards and deadlines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the Project Director - Mechanical and Electrical Services, offer comprehensive design and supervisory engineering services for Electrical Building Services installations.
- Adhere to strict guidelines for various facilities such as schools, community centres, and swimming pools, ensuring buildings are functional. This includes systems like Lighting, Power Distribution, Fire Alarms, Door Access, Security systems, A/C, BMS control, energy-saving systems, and Sprinkler systems.
- Collaborate with Architects to agree on project proposals, determine necessary materials, stay within budget, and assist with annual programming and budgeting.
- Ensure building services designs are functional, safe, and energy-efficient, complying with current regulations and policies.
- Continuously update knowledge of changing regulations and apply these improvements to all buildings. Oversee the inspection and approval of existing and new engineering services.
- Think creatively about installations and materials, avoiding reliance on past methods.
- Manage projects and design in-house capital programs, ensuring strong relationships between Engineering, Architecture, Structures, and Building Surveying disciplines for efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective schemes.
- Manage consultants and contractors on major design and build contracts.
- Develop detailed building services performance briefs and collaborate with all stakeholders to oversee projects and provide technical advice.
- Oversee in-house project design and supervision of capital maintenance projects, from inception to completion, providing technical design drawings, specifications, budget estimates, and financial control.
- Comply with Health and Safety at Work Act and CDM Regulations.
- Familiarise with Council policies, including Quality Assurance, Investors in People, Personnel matters, Financial Regulations, and Standing Orders.
- Manage own workload, update forward plan regularly, and adhere to time allocations.
- Take charge of project deliverables, make decisions, act on own initiative, and operate proactively.
