Position: Tooling Quality Engineer Department: Manufacturing Engineering Shift:

  • Monday to Thursday: 0600 - 1415
  • Friday: 0600 - 1200


Role Summary: The Tooling Quality Engineer is responsible for certifying manufacturing tools to meet drawing requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilise FARO Vantage laser tracking equipment and Spatial Analyser software to certify tools according to drawing specifications.
  • Manage team performance and wellbeing, ensuring safety, quality, timely delivery, and cost efficiency.
  • Understand customer needs (internal and external), manage resource requirements, prioritise workload, and handle stakeholder management.
  • Ensure processes create a safe working environment and meet EHS requirements and KPIs; actively support EHS projects.
  • Oversee the repair and maintenance of tooling assets, both internally and externally.
  • Support internal design and manufacturing engineers on NPI projects, including preparing ROM tool costings for new bids.
  • Implement proactive systems aligned with the AS9145 framework (e.g., process capability analysis, SPC, PFMEA, capacity planning, and error proofing) to reduce failure potential.
  • Maintain governance of tooling assets in line with customer requirements.
  • Lead or support customer audits as needed.
  • Troubleshoot shop issues, lead tooling investigations, and implement RCCA as necessary.


Requirements:
Essential:

  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, including stakeholder management.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities to achieve results.
  • Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Highly effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Detailed understanding of GD&T, limits & fits, and strong knowledge of assembly and manufacturing in both metallic and composite products.
  • In-depth understanding of Interchangeability (ICY) philosophies and their importance in processes and customer requirements.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret specifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Degree in Engineering/Technical discipline or equivalent knowledge and experience.


Desirable:

  • Strong project management skills.
  • Tool design experience, preferably within an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Competence in using CAD software, preferably Catia V5.
  • Positive approach to challenging situations.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas to meet customers and suppliers.
  • In-depth knowledge of emerging technologies, including digital tools relevant to the aviation industry and on-site processes.


Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK, obtain baseline security clearance, and adhere to ITAR restrictions.
