The Production Manager is a key leadership role within the business, responsible for managing and coordinating all production activities and staff to ensure achievement of safety, quality, delivery and cost targets for all projects and products.
They will be responsible for resource planning and allocation to meet business commitments, and for the leadership and development of all production staff including apprentices.
The Production Manager also lead the facilities management function, including elements of building safety, security, management, maintenance and repair.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures adherence to the highest standards of workplace health and safety, ensuring a safe and legally compliant working environment.
- Manages Assembly, Test, Sensors, Manufacturing Engineering and Facilities Management departments.
- Ensure staff are effectively deployed and managed to achieve planned cost, schedule, quality and financial objectives.
- Support business planning and resource forecasting, ensuring the necessary resources are available to enable delivery of business objectives.
- Contributes to planning the strategic direction of the business including future production capabilities
- Supports the creation and maintenance of the Master Production Schedule, and monitors and reports on daily progress against MPS targets.
- Maintains compliance to company policies, safety standards, quality specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Reviews, modifies, and implements efficient and effective department processes, policies, and procedures.
- Overall accountability for facilities and site services running efficiently and in line with legal requirements.
- Tracks and drives on-time delivery performance and metrics.
- Interfaces with Engineering, Programme Management, Quality and Supply Chain functions as the senior representative of the production team.
- Contributes key technical expertise to design, manufacture and bid activity.
- Provides operational guidance to ensure that the technical solutions meet project requirements.
- Contributes to design reviews, recommending enhancements for manufacturability and cost reduction
- Contributes in detail to Production Readiness Reviews for all projects and products
- Interfaces with QA department to ensure highest degree of final quality and develop new and better quality methods.
- Implements Lean Manufacturing techniques and practices where appropriate.
- Develops and communicates goals and key initiatives to improve production performance.
- Develops, implements, and monitors department budget; manages expenses within approved budget constraints.
- Identifies, documents, and implements opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Responsible for the people managerment across multiple teams
- Identifies and implements training and development requirements to expand the skills of the team
- Monitors the progress of apprentices and ensure they are trained to achieve the required level of competency and performance.
- Conduct interviews and assessments to ensure effective recruitment and selection processes.
Experience needed:
- Awareness and understanding of Health and Safety requirements and legislation.
- Knowledge and experience of modern manufacturing management techniques.
- Continuous improvement mindset and experience of process improvement implementation.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate others.
- Experience using planning tools to generate resource loading plans and detailed manufacturing schedules
- Ability to promote and encourage a culture of teamwork.
- Ability to solve complex problems effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively with personnel at all levels of the organisation.
- Ability to liaise with both internal and external customers/representatives and key stakeholders.
- Ability to negotiate when dealing with external contracts relating to site services.
- PC literate in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Quality systems and ability to apply them.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management.
- Knowledge of ISO9001: 2015 Quality Management Systems.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing & process improvement techniques.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement and waste elimination processes.
- Knowledge of ERP systems (such as IFS).
Desirable:
- Experience in the Defence / Aerospace or safety regulated environment would be advantageous
- Experience in the Naval / Maritime domain would be advantageous.
- Degree in Operations Management or Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Engineering
- Awareness of ESD
