Job description
Our local authority client, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Building Control Surveyor to join their team on a contract basis. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute positively to a high-performing Building Control service, and to mentor and guide Trainee Surveyors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Examine all allocated applications within prescribed timescales and provide thorough responses to applicants
- Undertake necessary consultations and act upon received responses
- Conduct site inspections at prescribed stages or as agreed
- Make comprehensive case notes and record them on the Service's IT systems
- Respond to written and verbal enquiries, using standard forms where relevant, and upload copies onto the IT systems
- Offer technical Building Regulations advice to customers and contacts
- Escalate potential issues to the Line Manager
- Comply with all Service procedures and protocols at all times
- Act as a mentor to Trainee Surveyors
- Attend reported dangerous structures and determine necessary actions
- Serve demolition notices and assess compliance on site
- Identify potential breaches of Regulations and recommend enforcement interventions
- Follow the Service's QA procedures
- Assist in handling more complex applications and provide advice to subordinate team members on routine applications
Job Requirements:
- Chartered Membership of a relevant accredited Professional Institution or equivalent body
- Significant experience in Building Control, including working at a senior level
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong working knowledge of the Building Regulations
- Ability to mentor junior staff effectively
- Degree (BEng/BSc) in building/construction discipline or equivalent qualification (Desirable)
- CSCS "Professionally Qualified Person" card holder or equivalent safety qualification (Desirable)
- Experience working in a Quality Management environment and exposure to complex development decision making (Desirable)
