Job description
Our client, a leader in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking an Engineering Manager to join their team specialising in Sonobuoys. This permanent position involves working closely with key stakeholders such as the International Sonobuoys Programmes Director, the Sonobuoys System Design Authority, and the Sonobuoys Project Manager. The role is focused on delivering engineering activities to time, cost, and quality across all aspects of the sonobuoys portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading a multi-disciplinary team to ensure solutions meet all requirements and are fit for purpose
- Overseeing new product development, in-service support, and products already in production
- Managing teams and work packages with defined delivery strategies and Work Breakdown Structures
- Producing comprehensive engineering plans with dependencies, assumptions, risks, and opportunities clearly identified
- Ensuring all design gates from bid to full-scale production readiness are successfully navigated
- Providing coaching and mentoring to team members
- Defending engineering estimates and challenging them as necessary
Job Requirements:
- Significant experience in engineering management, particularly in sonar or acoustics
- Background in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with an understanding of software and systems engineering
- Experience in managing teams of teams
- Understanding of engineering estimation and work package management
- Strong capability in creating and managing Work Breakdown Structures
- Proficiency in producing and managing engineering plans
- Excellent coaching and mentoring skills
- Eligibility for Security Check (SC) clearance (ideally with no caveats)
