Job description

The Active Travel Team is instrumental in creating better neighbourhoods, streets, and public spaces to meet the needs of local communities. This award-winning team is committed to promoting healthier travel options.

Key Responsibilities:

• Developing, promoting, and coordinating the delivery of school travel plans and related active travel projects
• Supporting school children to take up active travel (walking, cycling, and scooting), thereby reducing the school run
• Aligning projects with the council's Transport Strategy and Vision Zero
• Working collaboratively with schools to support their Healthy Schools Agenda and other whole school goals
• Delivering presentations to internal and external stakeholders
• Preparing funding bids for submission
• Providing expert advice to elected members, management, and colleagues

Job Requirements:

• A teaching qualification or experience working in a school travel adviser post or a road safety environment
• Experience in the management of staff
• In-depth knowledge of school travel plans and/or sustainable travel initiatives
• Understanding of current legislation governing Road Safety
• Ability to work collaboratively on various projects
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work positively with stakeholders, the local community, and elected members
• Enhanced/Standard satisfactory clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service
