Job description

This role is crucial for the effective execution of engineering projects, ensuring all statutory requirements and client agreements are met. Reporting to the Principal Traffic Engineer, you will oversee specific projects and support various functions within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial:

• Produce financial estimates and statistics for specific projects or areas of work.
• Monitor progress and expenditure on designated projects.
• Operate within financial limits and budgetary arrangements, adhering to recording and financial procedures.

Professional:

• Assist in preparing Conditions of Contract, Specifications, Bills of Quantities and Schedules of Rates.
• Take responsibility for the effective execution of work and oversight of junior staff or subcontractors.
• Carry out varied engineering tasks such as examining reports, designing schemes, and vetting sub-contractor tenders.
• Ensure all specifications, performance levels, quality targets, and statutory requirements are met in projects.

Managerial:

• Supervise junior staff and support their on-the-job training.
• Handle correspondence, queries, and complaints as directed.
• Write and present reports related to own work.
• Attend meetings with the public and manage questions as needed.

Miscellaneous:

• Promote the Council's Equal Opportunities, Customer Care, and Environmental policies.
• Follow Health and Safety legislation to ensure public safety.
• Manage data entry and output from electronic data processing equipment as per procedures.

Job Requirements:

• Experience in traffic engineering.
• Understanding of highways and transportation projects.
• Significant experience as a Principal Engineer.
• Strong project management and financial monitoring skills.
• Proficiency in preparing contract specifications and tender documents.
• Ability to supervise and guide junior staff.
• Excellent communication skills for dealing with the public, writing reports, and managing correspondence.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to the role.
