The Company
Our client designs, develops and manufactures products and technologies that enable their customers to produce greener vehicles for a cleaner environment. Together with their global OEM customers and suppliers, they deliver a range of automotive thermal management and fluid systems from 100 manufacturing locations across almost 30 countries. The firm is pivoting toward supporting electrification with products designed for hybrid and battery electric vehicles. The role is based in Oxfordshire and candidates should be aware that attendance at the office is required on a 3:2 basis.

Principle Accountabilities:

As the Global Sustainability Director, you will support the business to develop and implement strategies and programmes which will help the firm achieve their commitments and targets related to social programmes and climate change. This position will report directly to the VP Sustainability and EHS in the US. This position will play a key role in the development of their public reporting programmes which includes CDP, sustainability and annual reporting as well as UN Global Compact reporting. This position will have a voice in shaping and helping to develop the organisations understanding of the future trends and issues that will mean most to our cient's business, clients, and stakeholders that they serve. As Sustainability Director, you will focus on building and operationalizing corporate global sustainability and ESG programmes which are committed to measuring and reducing the Group's environmental impact and implementing best practices across all three pillars of ESG. The successful candidate will also be responsible for collating, managing, and analysing data to support sustainability reporting against multiple ESG frameworks and regulations and will function as the subject matter expert of ESG and sustainability. The Sustainability Director will provide leadership to, and support, a cross functional team which will include coaching, mentoring, and professional development.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete public and customer disclosures in a variety of different frameworks and platforms.
  • Support the development of the sustainability and annual reporting initiatives. Work with the team to develop the thematic design, content, and drafting, of the Group's annual sustainability report.
  • Manage external ESG reporting and disclosure activities and ensure means to increase information transparency, relevance, and quality.
  • Implement best practices in areas of corporate, ethical, and social responsibility and address any issues arising.
  • Identify gaps in their sustainability and environmental, social and governance performance and create ambitious, credible and measurable action plans to address these.
  • Deliver issue-specific strategies for the organisation on sustainable supply chain engagement and development, transition planning, modern slavery, and biodiversity.
  • Work with the team to assure compliance to new sustainability related regulations and requirements affecting the organisation.
  • Promote and raise awareness across the business of the impact of emerging sustainability issues.
  • Work to continually adapt and improve as well as advise on, influence, and implement the Groups Corporate Sustainability and ESG strategy.
  • Track the company's progress for each ESG initiative and report such to senior leadership regularly.
  • Support the Groups corporate sustainability programme including budget process and roadmap development.
  • Develop corporate sustainability & ESG capabilities and increase the Group's expertise with regards to Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon accounting practices, Product Carbon Footprint, and Life Cycle Analysis.
  • Responsible for identifying, advising on, and mitigating regulatory risks related to global sustainability & ESG laws and regulations, such as the EU CSRD , CBAM, TCFD, TNFD and CS3D.
  • Drive and manage global ESG programme governance forums and mechanisms to ensure regular and effective cross-functional coordination, communication, and visibility.
  • Lead corporate reporting and disclosure activities (e.g., CDP, Ecovadis, NCQ, Manufacture 2030).
  • Drive implementation and integration of technologies, systems and tools to foster ESG data collection streamlining efforts for the Group.
  • Manage external consultants and supporting relationships with membership-based organisations.
  • Provide training and regular communications to the Group to both educate on sustainability best practices and drive a culture of sustainability within the Group.

Knowledge Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently and independently in a time-sensitive, thorough, detail-oriented, and well-organized manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and leadership skills, including, but not limited to: planning, problem-solving and decision making.
  • Ability to interact well with people of all ages, skill sets, and diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of sustainability challenges and opportunities.
  • Strong knowledge of best-in-class sustainability, sourcing and procurement practices.
  • Ability to interpret and implement ESG frameworks and regulations.
  • Strategically minded, and commercially astute with a proven capacity to translate information and ideas into practical plans.
  • Internal partnership skills and the experience working across multiple teams in a large organization, align goals, and develop executable plans.
  • Proven experience designing meaningful goals and KPIs against which to measure sustainability performance.

Experience:

  • 5-10 years' experience in the sustainability field working for a multinational company or a company with significant international exposure.
  • Experience of working across a global operation and effective applying a strategic improvement programmes.
  • A past history of implementing strategic sustainability initiatives and programmes.
  • Experience in a manufacturing and/or automotive environment would be an advantage.
