My Client is recruiting for a Site Fitter/Engineer/Fabricator in the Water Sector

Location: Whitburn - This work will entail travelling both locally and nationally. Occasional foreign travel may also be required. Generally, travel might involve short stays away from home, normally no more than from Monday to Friday, but somewhat longer trips (perhaps two weeks or more) cannot be completely ruled out.

This is a position with a wide-ranging number of responsibilities including:

  • Works & site-based fabrication of various types of plastic components such as tanks, scrubbers, ducting, brackets, machine guards, enclosures, lip extract ducts, thermal plastic forming canopies and fume cabinets. Typical materials of construction are polypropylene and uPVC, both with & without GRP reinforcement.
  • Sub-assembly of a wide range of equipment.
  • Installation of small to medium-sized packaged treatment equipment.
  • Installation of pipework systems, working from design drawings, isometrics and agreed site-run routes.

This means that previous experience in the installation of pre-engineered and site run pipework systems is essential, including experience with uPVC, ABS, Polypropylene, socket and butt-fusion PVDF.

  • Installation of screwed stainless steel and galvanised steel pipework may be required.
  • Installation of dual containment pipework.
  • Production of initial "As-Built" records for installed systems.
  • Support other company staff in various day-to-day activities, as required.
  • Supervision of sub-contract services, when the need arises.
  • Liaison with Client's and Company's engineering staff.
  • Support Operations staff in management and distribution of spare parts.
  • Support our engineers in a wide variety of ways including a certain amount of office-based duties. In this context, it is expected that you will achieve a competent standard in the use of MS Office software, particularly MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook as quickly as possible.
  • Support Testing & Commissioning activities, when applicable.
  • Assist with collecting samples of water and wastewater from our clients' plants for independent analyses.
  • Site Supervision duties, for example for installation of equipment on client's sites. This might involve supervision of sub-contractors
  • Maintaining the workshop in a clean, tidy & safe environment.

After a short introductory and settlement period, it is envisaged that the position may also involve assisting with additional work as listed below.

This will require a general appreciation of the design and operational requirements of water treatment plants & associated equipment as well as product-specific information. The company will provide additional training as necessary.

  • Commissioning, servicing & fault finding of Toveko sand filters.
  • Servicing & general maintenance of

  • Filtration systems of all types
  • Membrane treatments including microfiltration, reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration
  • Conventional and electrolytic deionisation systems
  • De-aeration
  • Waste water treatment plant

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Engineering qualification ideally in Mechanical Engineering HNC/HND/NVQ3 etc
  • Full driving licence
  • Experience in the Water Sector - ideally
  • Mechanical fitting/Fabrication experience in heavy industry environment
  • Experience of various types of plastic components such as tanks
