The Role

The role holder will be responsible for providing competent SHE advice, systems and assurance for multiple business areas or site(s).

The role will support the development and/or implementation of the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) policy, systems and objectives for a business area or site(s).

There are no people management elements to this role.

Role Responsibilities:

Not limited to...

  • Support the development, maintenance and/or deployment of a SHE management system (including objectives, processes and assurance) that meet the requirements of BAE Systems Operational Framework and International SHE Standards (such as ISO45001 and ISO14001) and supports the achievement of organisational goals.
  • Provide competent SHE advice and support to Line Leaders within multiple business areas or site(s), enabling them to effectively manage SHE within their area(s) of responsibility.
  • Support activities associated with improving SHE practice and performance within multiple business areas or site(s) , including (but not limited to): deployment and implementation of SHE Policy and Management Systems, SHE objectives and targets, provision of competent SHE advice on risk management and control, collation and provision of SHE performance reports (such as injuries, audits, regulatory issues), investigation and reporting of incidents in accordance with regulatory and/or customer requirements, provision of an effective interface with representatives dealing with liability issues.
  • Support the development and implementation of innovative SHE change programmes, ensuring consistency and effective improvement in SHE risk management and embedding a culture of continuous improvement and the sharing of best practices.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, engaging with them to appropriately consider SHE factors during decision making.
  • Provide assurance for determining compliance with relevant legal, BAE Systems Operational Framework and SHE Management System requirements within business areas or site(s).
  • Deliver duties to appropriate timescales and to budget.
  • Monitor the effectiveness, and provide regular reports, on all of the above to relevant stakeholders.

The role requires a good ability to ,communicate and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders. Stakeholders include (not limited to) departmental Line Managers, Employee Representatives, Employees, Suppliers and Customers.

The job holder should be able to demonstrate integrity, credibility and maturity to gain the confidence and respect of others.

Due to the nature of the work environment, the job holder is required to have the ability to resolve problems in a dynamic way, based on analysing information and using acquired experience.

The role holder is required to hold one or more of the following QCF/NQF Level 3 (or higher) SHE qualifications: NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety; Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Safety and Health Practice; IEMA or NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management; or an equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.

It would be desirable for role holder to be currently working towards one or more of the following QCF/NQF Level 5 (or higher) SHE qualifications: NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety; Level 5 NVQ in Occupational Safety and Health Practice; Level 6 NCRQ Diploma in Applied Health and Safety; IEMA or NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management; Safety, Health and/or Environmental Honours Degree (Bachelors or Higher); Equivalent qualification in Safety, Health and/or Environmental subject.

Security Requirements: SC

This role will require the person to hold full Security Clearance (SC) prior to working onsite. You will need to obtain a BPSS check as part of this process. You must currently hold or be eligible and willing to obtain SC and you must be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship and have lived and worked in the UK for a minimum 5 year period. The Umbrella rate quoted above is the Gross Umbrella rate (i.e. the rate we pay to the Umbrella Company inclusive of ALL employment costs). Please note, the rate paid by the Umbrella will be less, as will a Limited Deemed rate or Agency PAYE rate. Please get in touch to discuss the rates via these different payment vehicles.
