Job description
Our client, a leader in the HTP sector, is currently seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team on a permanent basis. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful financial completion of projects, protecting the company from financial risks, and adhering to commercial procedures. As a senior quantity surveyor, you will manage a section of a large project or several smaller projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinating with, reporting to, and implementing the directives of the Regional Director/Manager and the Commercial Manager
- Ensuring timely submission of all data needed to monitor and analyse contract performance
- Liaising with Contracts Managers for daily commercial administration of contracts
- Preparing or approving accurate draft sub-contracts
- Supervising, mentoring, and encouraging junior staff
- Consulting with contracts management to ensure necessary notices and submissions are given promptly
- Ensuring main contract payment applications contain all necessary claims and achieve timely submission of detailed claims and final accounts
- Assisting Contracts Managers in managing sub-contractor performance to ensure economic and timely completion
- Ensuring regular submission of main contract payment applications and timely cash collection
- Involvement in dispute avoidance and resolution
- Responsible for managing meetings
- Line management responsibility for the commercial team members
Job Requirements:
- Strong understanding of the construction industry and its parties
- Proficient in measurement and valuation
- Good knowledge of standard forms of contract
- Ability to read drawings, specifications, and understand the construction process
- Capability to negotiate with clients and sub-contractors and draft sub-contracts
- Knowledge of CIS
- Ability to produce accurate monthly cost and value reports
- Teamwork skills
- Awareness of dispute procedures
- Experience in risk assessments and valuation with project team members
- Extensive experience in working on live projects and final accounts
- Experience in value engineering and resolving disputes
- Successful completion of several final accounts
- Experience in procuring major works sub-contracts
- Professional membership of recognised institute (e.g. RICS) is desirable
- Proficient in Microsoft packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience of managing, mentoring, and developing staff
- Experience in health, education, mixed-use, and commercial projects is highly desirable
