Job description
Our client, operating in the Defence and Security sector, is currently seeking a Principal Engineer - Electrical Engineering (Power) to join their team. This contract position is based in Barrow and Filton (Bristol) with a hybrid working model, requiring 2-3 days in the office every second week. The contract is set for 12 months, with one position available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and overseeing power system designs and architectures
- Conducting power system modelling, simulation, and analysis
- Managing power generation and distribution systems, both AC and DC
- Ensuring power system protection and coordination
- Overseeing the operation and maintenance of power systems
- Implementing power electronics solutions
- Monitoring power system earth faults
- Adhering to industry codes and standards, particularly in the context of submarine systems and equipment
Job Requirements:
- Experience in power engineering within the Defence and Security sector
- Understanding of at least one of the following: power system modelling, generators, switchgear, protection, power electronics
- In-depth knowledge of at least one of the following areas:
- Power Systems Architecture
- Power Systems Modelling (Simulation and Analysis)
- Power Generation and Distribution - both AC & DC
- Power System Protection and Coordination
- Power System Operation
- Power Electronics
- Power System Earth Fault Monitoring
- Experience in complex design programmes
- Understanding of engineering roles adhering to industry codes and standards
