Job description
Overall Purpose of the Role
This position requires close collaboration with clients and internal teams to ensure that projects are delivered safely and in compliance with all relevant regulations. We are looking for someone who can effectively perform the role of CDMA/PD with professionalism, a constructive mindset, and a collaborative approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the fulfilment of the Principal Designer/Principal Contractor duties as outlined in CDM 2015, including acting as a CDM-Advisor where required to assist the client.
- Leverage your experience in health and safety, particularly within a multidisciplinary design consultancy, to ensure that team members and duty holders (such as clients, designers, contractors, and internal teams) work together efficiently and meet all regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that design teams plan, manage, monitor, and coordinate both the pre-construction and construction phases of projects to eliminate or mitigate significant and foreseeable risks associated with construction and future maintenance.
- Collaborate with clients and others to gather, assess, and distribute pre-construction information, identifying any gaps and advising on how to address them.
- Support key projects, particularly in highways, structures, landscape, and urban design, as well as other areas as needed.
- Attend design and client meetings, providing expert advice and support on construction-related health and safety matters.
- Offer clear, practical guidance and coaching on Health and Safety to project teams throughout the project's lifecycle.
- Assist in creating training materials, guidance documents, and other management tools.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of training on CDM both for internal teams and external clients or designers.
- Participate in construction site audits, review risk assessments and method statements, and provide health and safety advice as needed.
- Assist in preparing fee proposals in collaboration with project managers and discipline leads.
Qualifications (Essential):
- Degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- NEBOSH or a similar qualification in construction health and safety.
- Membership in a relevant professional institution (e.g., ICE, CIHT, IHE), and working towards or having achieved membership in a health and safety institution, such as APS.
Knowledge and Skills (Essential):
- Experience in civil engineering design, particularly in highways, landscape and urban design, flood and water management, or structures.
- Strong background in construction health and safety.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in IT.
Knowledge and Skills (Desirable):
- Prior experience as a PD/CDMA in a multidisciplinary consultancy, particularly in highways and urban design.
- Experience working in local government.
- Construction safety experience.
