Job description
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of design professionals to deliver high-quality, sustainable transport projects.
- Oversee the design and technical execution of parking infrastructure, cycle routes, bus priority schemes, and other transport initiatives.
- Ensure all traffic orders are handled to the highest standards, maintaining compliance and managing the entire process effectively.
- Supervise staff seconded to local councils, ensuring smooth project management and alignment with council-led transport programs.
- Work closely with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders to ensure project alignment with community, environmental, and regulatory objectives.
- Manage project delivery from start to finish, ensuring timely, on-budget, and high-quality outcomes.
- Serve as the primary technical leader for clients, providing expert guidance on design and engineering matters.
- Contribute to business development efforts by supporting bids, securing new work, and cultivating strong client relationships.
- Review and approve design documents, technical drawings, and project reports, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and client expectations.
- Drive continuous improvements in design processes and operational efficiencies, fostering innovation and sustainability across projects.
Experience
Required:
- A degree in civil engineering, transport engineering, urban design, or a related discipline (or equivalent work experience).
- Extensive experience leading design teams in the transport or infrastructure sector, with a focus on sustainable transport projects.
- Expertise in parking infrastructure, cycle route design, and bus priority schemes.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to inspire, motivate, and develop talent.
- Experience managing traffic order functions, ensuring compliance and effective project oversight.
- Familiarity with UK transport policies, such as Healthy Streets, and relevant statutory frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating with clients and public authorities.
- A proactive, results-driven mindset with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with industry-standard design software and Microsoft Office tools.
Ideal:
- Chartered Engineer status or membership in a relevant professional institution (e.g., ICE, CIHT).
- Project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, APM).
- Experience working with UK local authorities or transport consultancies.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
