Group Head of Technical Engineering

Purpose of the Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead and manage a multi-disciplined team of engineers, providing mentorship, guidance and performance feedback.
  • Deliver market ready products and solutions, i.e., technically correct, and complete with all necessary product and application drawings
  • Follow the company's 'gated' PD&I process
  • Oversee the planning and execution of engineering projects, ensuring they meet time, cost & quality objectives
  • Use agile methodology where appropriate to shorten time to market
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to define project scopes and objectives whilst supporting the company's values
  • Develop and implement strategies and initiatives to drive technical excellence and innovation
  • Manage department budgets, which include headcount, projects and equipment
  • Adhere to relevant Regulations and Standards
  • Champion the integration of new technologies
  • Lead in finding innovative solutions for technical issues
  • As an active member of the Operational Leadership Team (OLT), demonstrate a joined-up approach to the business strategy.

Candidate Specification

  • Demonstrable experience in a senior technical and engineering manager role.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience, with an emphasis on applied electronics and or electrical engineering (desirable).
  • Demonstrable experience of the commercial vehicle and/or automotive market.
  • Experience of product specification, design and development - from concept to launch.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction.
  • Decision-making skills, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Attention to detail in planning, execution, and follow-through.
  • Proven track record of achieving and exceeding goals and objectives.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, and driven.
  • Flexibility to work beyond normal business hours when required, which may include some international travel.

Management Skills

  • Ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Capacity to analyse situations, consider alternatives, and make timely decisions.
  • Proven track record of resolving challenges and improving processes.
  • Experience in building, developing, and managing high-performing teams.
