Location: Stevenage OR Bristol (hybrid working)

Duration: 12 month initial contract

Our client, a prominent player in the Defence & Security sector, is seeking a skilled Safety Engineer to join their team in Stevenage on a full-time, on-site basis (Bristol may be considered). This is a 12-month initial contract role within the defence industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering the safety analysis and assurance for integrating products onto various platforms.
  • Collaborating with internal delivery teams and UK and non-UK customers to define safety boundaries.
  • Producing and evolving Safety Management Plans and safety analyses.
  • Identifying gaps in safety evidence and defining suitable mitigations.
  • Conducting hazard identification exercises (such as SWIFT and HAZOP).
  • Managing hazard and risk analyses, including functional failure, fault tree, and event tree analyses.
  • Supporting internal and external project Safety Panels and Committees.
  • Liaising with other functions to derive safety requirements and demonstrate satisfaction of safety requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in safety engineering, particularly within the defence industry.
  • Strong understanding of HAZOP and hazard management.
  • Experience in integrating hazard analysis with system engineering processes.
  • Ability to construct safety arguments and contribute to ALARP statements and Safety Cased Reports.
  • Thorough understanding of DEF-STAN 00-056 and similar international standards.
  • Knowledge of IEC 61508/DO178C/DO-254 (desirable).
  • Significant electrical engineering experience preferred; knowledge of mechanical engineering helpful.
  • Strong verbal, written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven team player with strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
