Job description
Our client, a leading company in the maritime sector, is currently seeking a Principal Engineer specialising in Product Safety & Environment to join their team. This role is offered on a contract basis with the flexibility to work predominantly from home, with occasional on-site visits once a month.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing technical guidance and direction to less experienced team members
- Undertaking Product Safety functional design analysis, including Hazard Identification and Hazard Analysis, to support various submarine programmes
- Producing Product Safety functional justification reports for a range of submarine programmes
- Providing specialist safety advice to system engineers on a range of submarine programmes
- Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders on a range of submarine programmes
- Managing the technical aspects of safety campaigns
- Engaging in PSA modelling to support safety cases across functions
- Participating in local hazard analysis and understanding the severity of accidents and levels of harm
Job Requirements:
- Experience as a Safety Engineer, preferably within the BAE Maritime sector
- Understanding of Safety Management Systems
- Experience and/or understanding of techniques to support Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard Analysis (HAZAN)
- Experience of producing formal safety assessments
- Proven record of team working and delivering quality outputs to schedule
- Experience of producing high-standard technical reports
- Experience in undertaking probabilistic analysis and local hazards to the individual (LHI) analysis
- Familiarity with standards such as Def Stan 56
Qualifications:
- STEM degree qualified or equivalent experience
