Job description

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Lead Controls Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role will involve leading the design, development, and implementation of control systems for major projects in the nuclear and hydro storage sectors. As a Lead Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing system integration, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and managing a multidisciplinary team of engineers.

You will work closely with clients and stakeholders, translating project requirements into robust, scalable, and reliable control systems.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design, specification, and implementation of control systems for nuclear or hydro storage projects.
Manage the integration of complex automation systems, including PLC, SCADA, and DCS platforms.
Develop and review functional specifications, system documentation (URS, FDS, DDS), and test protocols.
Oversee and guide the configuration and programming of PLCs (Siemens S7, Allen Bradley), HMI/SCADA systems (Wonderware System Platform).
Perform system-level troubleshooting, debugging, and optimisation to ensure system performance meets required specifications.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams including project managers, electrical engineers, and design engineers to ensure smooth project execution.
Provide technical support to the project team and clients throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Conduct and supervise testing and validation activities, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, safety procedures, and best practices for nuclear and hydro storage projects.
Mentor and train junior engineers, sharing knowledge and expertise to foster team growth.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related field.
At least 7 years of experience in controls engineering, with a strong background in system integration and automation.
Expertise with PLC programming, specifically Siemens S7, Allen Bradley PLCs.
Extensive experience with SCADA systems, particularly Wonderware System Platform.
Strong technical knowledge of control system documentation, including User Requirements Specifications (URS), Functional Design Specifications (FDS), and Design Description Specifications (DDS).
Proven experience in the nuclear sector or hydro storage projects is highly preferred.
Familiarity with safety-critical environments, including IEC 61508 or ISO 13849.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Strong communication and leadership skills, with experience managing technical teams.
Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to nuclear and hydro power projects.

Desirable Qualifications:
Master's degree in Electrical or Control Systems Engineering.
Experience with additional software platforms or automation systems.
Experience with cybersecurity protocols in control systems (e.g., ISA/IEC 62443).
Prior experience with commissioning and start-up of large-scale industrial systems.
