Job description

Our client, a market leading R&D organisation, are recruiting a Lab Technician/Senior Technologist to support their Southampton operation.

The role described focuses on supporting the development of e-liquid products, ensuring high-quality production, and advancing product safety as part of the company's broader ambitions in vaping technology. Here's a summary of the key objectives, expectations, and responsibilities:

Key Objectives:

  1. E-liquid Product Development:
    • Support the development and capabilities of e-liquid formulations in the lab and pilot plant.
    • Drive continuous improvements in quality control and product safety.
  2. Collaboration:
    • Engage with internal product development teams.
    • Assist in reviewing production reports and summarizing findings for further development.

Key Expectations:

  1. Technical Expertise:
    • A deep understanding of e-liquid chemistry and analytical techniques (e.g., pH meter, UV-VIS, viscosity, etc.).
    • Ability to support the development of e-liquids by formulating and producing samples, ensuring safety and quality control standards.
  2. Product Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure e-liquid formulations meet defined quality control standards through various testing methods.
    • Participate in routine calibration, maintenance, and compliance with ISO quality management systems.
  3. Project Management:
    • Plan and manage short- and long-term e-liquid formulation projects effectively.
    • Utilize formal project management tools when needed to organize tasks and timelines.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Formulation and Testing:
    • Conduct e-liquid formulation production, small batch preparation, and testing using various laboratory techniques.
    • Perform wet chemistry tests (e.g., pH, viscosity, flash point) in line with QC standards.
  2. Collaboration and Reporting:
    • Work with internal teams to address technical challenges and summarize findings.
    • Assist with reporting results and collaborating with internal/external stakeholders.
  3. Safety and Maintenance:
    • Follow safety standards, including PPE use, work area housekeeping, and participation in job safety analysis.
    • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure operational readiness.

Experience and Skills Required:

  1. Technical Experience:
    • Proven laboratory experience, ideally in e-liquids formulation and hazardous material management.
    • Knowledge of sample preparation, analysis, and measurement techniques.
  2. Organizational and Interpersonal Skills:
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
    • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with peers and stakeholders.
  3. Curiosity and Problem-Solving:
    • A strong interest in product development and technical challenges.
    • Ability to address issues proactively with a "can-do" attitude.

Other Expectations:

  • Contract Type: 12-month contract initially.
  • Rate: £17.19 per hour.
