What will I be doing?

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems on defence submarines
  • Following detailed technical drawings and plans to ensure accurate implementation
  • Conducting routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure operational efficiency
  • Troubleshooting electrical issues and providing effective solutions
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
  • Liaising with other team members and departments to facilitate timely project completion
  • Documenting work performed and maintaining accurate records
  • Providing technical support and guidance as needed
  • Experience in BAE-trades-electrician or a similar role
  • Approved Electrician status with relevant qualifications
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical electrical drawings
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and components
  • Ability to work effectively within the defence and security context
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Commitment to upholding safety standards and regulations

Pay rates

BAE Systems offers a range of payrates for PAYE and Umbrella contractors, depending on your allocated shifts, and the distance you're travelling to reach the Portsmouth site. You can speak to our team to find out more about the shift options by clicking the apply button.

PAYE - If travelling within 39 miles of work location

  • Standard Shift - £19.40 per hour
  • Early Shift - £22.31 per hour
  • Back Shift (afternoon start) - £24.25 per hour
  • Weekday and Saturday OT - £25.87 per hour
  • Sunday OT - £32.33 per hour


Umbrella - If travelling within 39 miles of work location

  • Standard Shift - £25.22 per hour
  • Early Shift - £28.92 per hour
  • Back Shift (afternoon start) - £31.40 per hour
  • Weekday and Saturday OT - £31.66 per hour
  • Sunday OT - £39.43 per hour

PAYE - If travelling more than 39 miles to work location

  • Standard Shift - £27.40 per hour
  • Early Shift - £30.31 per hour
  • Back Shift - £33.18 per hour
  • Weekday and Saturday OT - £25.87 per hour
  • Sunday OT - £32.33 per hour

Umbrella - If travelling more than 39 miles to work location

  • Standard Shift - £35.61 per hour
  • Early Shift - £39.32 per hour
  • Back Shift - £41.78 per hour
  • Weekday and Saturday OT - £31.88 per hour
  • Sunday OT - £39.65 per hour
