Job description


Our client, an esteemed entity in the automotive sector, is on the lookout for a Principal Engineer / Technical Specialist in Vehicle Dynamics to join their permanent team. This role is pivotal in shaping the driving experience of new vehicles, ensuring they meet the expectations of UK and European customers. The successful candidate will spearhead efforts in defining handling, drive comfort, and braking targets for vehicles in the West Europe market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and oversee handling, drive comfort, and braking targets tailored for the UK and European markets
  • Support the development of vehicle dynamics both domestically and internationally
  • Provide guidance and support to the Vehicle Dynamics team, including setting targets, implementing best practice techniques, and facilitating knowledge transfer
  • Undertake tuning and calibration of region-specific vehicles to meet Vehicle Dynamics targets
  • Conduct detailed analysis of K&C reports to recommend component and system changes
  • Generate detailed reports for senior management

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or an equivalent accredited programme
  • Experience in Ride and Handling, as well as Kinematics and Compliance
  • Expert knowledge of passive and active suspension, steering, and braking systems
  • Profound understanding of calibration and tuning for suspension, steering, and braking systems
  • Experience in benchmarking vehicles with respect to Vehicle Dynamics
  • Ability to generate targets and implement best practice processes
  • Good grasp of test and simulation techniques related to suspension and steering system kinematics and compliance, as well as vehicle ride and handling
  • Competence in analysing simulation and test data, and making recommendations for areas of improvement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel abroad (worldwide) for system testing and development
