Job description

  • Taking a lead role across Fire & Explosion Safety Engineering (DSEAR) risk assessments and compliance activities for new and existing submarine manufacturing facilities.
  • Co-ordinating the work programs of team members to meet strategic explosion safety objectives at our site Barrow-In-Furness
  • Leading the on-going development of the fire safety team across a number of projects for buildings and submarine platforms.
  • Mentoring and developing engineers within the team
  • Monitoring, recording and reporting against key performance indicators for Explosion Safety through a variety of key stakeholder groups
  • Developing, producing and maintaining Explosion Safety process documentation and management strategies
  • Producing and reviewing explosion strategies and risk assessments
  • Reviewing and supporting commissioning strategies for explosion safety systems
  • Producing proposals for packages of work
  • Reviewing of engineering documentation (relevant to Explosion Safety)
  • Providing support to regulatory inspections
  • Chairing explosion safety workshops and working groups.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience of working in an explosion safety engineering environment and applying various methods of hazard analysis
  • DSEAR risk assessment production including hazard identification and analysis (preferably from a high hazard industry)
  • A thorough understanding of Hazardous Area Classification (HAC).
  • Proven track record in implementing business processes to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Passion for safety and open to developing new skills and undertaking further training in explosion risk management.

Desirable Skills:

  • COMAH (Safety Case support) experience
  • Site Asset Protection experience
  • Fire Safety Engineering experience
  • Degree qualified in STEM discipline (or Fire & Explosion Safety Engineering / Risk Management).
