Job description

Our client, a key player in the manufacturing and engineering sector, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Southampton. This permanent role involves working within the R&D team, developing innovative design solutions to meet customer requirements in terms of electrical, mechanical, ergonomic, and aesthetic needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Proposing design solutions to meet customer requirements
• Producing detailed 2D drawings to BS8888 or international standards from models and customer-supplied drawings, using SolidWorks
• Assembling and testing prototypes and change models to achieve specifications
• Designing customer tooling to aid product assembly
• Sourcing components and materials specific to the agreed designs
• Maintaining existing 3D models and 2D drawings, including requested changes
• Adhering to all health and safety rules and practices
• Occasionally performing drawing changes or production drawings under the DRC system

Job Requirements:

• Experience in mechanical design engineering within a manufacturing environment
• Proficiency in using 3D drafting packages, particularly SolidWorks
• Understanding of producing detailed 2D drawings to international standards
• Education to BTEC level 3/HND in an engineering discipline or significant work experience using CAD
• Experience working to ISO13485 standards is advantageous
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word

Measurement of Success:

• Contribution to project deliverables and on-time delivery of activities
• Accuracy and completeness of drawings
