Job description
Warehouse / Stores person
📍 Location: Hamble, Southampton
📆 Contract: Initial 6-month contract, with potential for temp-to-perm
💷 Pay: £12.43 per hour (PAYE) | £14.30 per hour (including holiday pay) | £16.77 per hour (UMB)
⏰ Hours: 37 hours per week (Day Shift) 0800-1630 M-T, 0800-1300 F
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and reliable Warehouse Operative to join our logistics team. This role involves receiving, storing, and dispatching products, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the warehouse. The position is physically demanding and requires working in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process inbound goods, inspecting for damage and accuracy
- Move materials across the site to support operational needs
- Maintain accurate stock control, including put-away, picking kits, and selecting parts for dispatch
- Load and unload goods safely, ensuring careful handling
- Operate warehouse equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks (training provided)
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment in line with 5S principles
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including safe lifting techniques
- Accurately pick and prepare items for dispatch, ensuring secure packing
- Support business operations with occasional overtime when required
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Computer literacy, with experience using a Warehouse Management System
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team
- Excellent organisation and time management skills
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items in a fast-paced environment
- Health & Safety awareness, including knowledge of safe working practices
- Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable:
- Previous warehouse or logistics experience
- Experience operating warehouse equipment
- Background in inventory management or data handling
- Understanding of quality procedures
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing demands
Security Clearance & Right to Work
Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required and must be maintained for this role. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK. Sponsorship may be considered but is subject to immigration rules and the availability of a suitably skilled candidate.
