Job description
Our client, a neurotechnology company pioneering digitisation, has developed the world's first nose-computer interface (NCI). This innovative system interprets neural signals from the olfactory bulb to identify a wide array of volatile compounds in the environment.
The NCI technology enables rapid detection of complex odours in under two seconds, surpassing traditional chemical sensors like Gas Chromatography (GC) or Ion Mobility Spectroscopy (IMS). This capability has significant applications across various sectors, including:
- Security and Defence: Enhancing the detection of narcotics, explosives, and other hazardous materials.
- Healthcare: Advancing disease diagnostics through the identification of disease-specific odours.
- Agriculture and Environmental Monitoring: Monitoring crop health and detecting environmental hazards.
In 2024, our client led a research team that secured $650,000 in Phase 1 funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation's Convergence Accelerator. The project focuses on creating safe training aids for detection animals and refining the NCI system for real-world applications, such as identifying fentanyl and smokeless gunpowder.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigating the existing prototype design and system architecture.
- Reviewing project materials, including system design specifications, schematics, and firmware.
- Conducting a feasibility study to identify core technologies and key hardware components.
- Defining project scope and development planning.
- Setting up and familiarising with development tools.
- Validating core technologies and characterising critical components to develop a power-efficient, robust, and compact wireless system.
- Creating high-performance, low-power implantable solutions that enhance our client's mission of digitising the sense of smell.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in firmware and embedded engineering.
- Strong understanding of system architecture and prototype designs.
- Proficiency with development tools and embedded systems.
- Ability to validate core technologies and develop power-efficient, compact wireless systems.
- Effective collaboration skills within a team of engineers specialising in FPGA and embedded development.
- Willingness to work from the office in Bratislava as required, with flexibility for remote work.
Start in 2 weeks to 1 month, preferable candidates with 2 weeks' notice period. This is a long-term contract role based in Bratislava, Slovakia.
