Job description
Our client, a large Tier 1 rail contractor with an extensive work bank, is currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Health & Safety Manager to join their team based in Birmingham. This permanent role is essential in supporting projects and leading on health, safety, and environmental issues within the rail sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support, guidance, and advice on health and wellbeing matters
- Conduct focused project site health and wellbeing training as required
- Offer guidance and advice to both office and site locations on health & safety matters, in line with H&S Policies and Procedures
- Conduct weekly site safety inspections and ensure action plans are communicated and implemented
- Review and assess project site Work Package Plans, Task Briefing Sheets, method statements and risk assessments
- Generate and conduct toolbox talks, safety alerts, and assist in customer/principal contractor briefings
- Conduct formal monthly environmental audits on projects, ensuring improvement actions are issued and implemented
- Support and contribute to securing and winning work within the rail business
Job Requirements:
- In-depth and demonstrable understanding of health and safety legislation
- Experience in infrastructure sectors such as rail, tunnelling, or energy
- Previous experience as a Health and Safety Manager in a Tier 1/2 organisation
- Experience in carrying out accident and incident investigations
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001
- Good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- PTS, NEBOSH/NCRQ Diploma, ISOH Membership
- Internal auditor for ISO45001 is essential
- UK Driving Licence
- MSc in Occupational Health & Safety Management is desirable but not essential
