Job description

This position involves providing professional arboriculture support and advice, as well as leading the implementation of the Borough's Trees Strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Borough's tree stock, including condition assessment and determining required work
  • Offer expert arboricultural advice to ensure the effective delivery of tree services
  • Collaborate with the Policy team on the implementation of the tree strategy
  • Organise regular tree surveys, update databases, and outline necessary actions
  • Report to Council committees and attend community meetings to advise on tree-related matters
  • Conduct risk assessments related to tree work and advise on mitigation strategies
  • Inspect and address dangerous trees as per relevant Local Government legislation
  • Plan and programme proactive and reactive schedules with the contracts team
  • Investigate and respond to service requests and customer complaints
  • Process insurance claims related to tree-related damages
  • Supervise and manage supporting roles/functions, including agency staff
  • Prepare technical reports and evidence for legal proceedings
  • Stay updated with relevant legislative, technical, and professional developments

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in arboriculture, including understanding of the Local Government (Misc Provisions) Act 1976 and the Highways Act 1980
  • Experience working with third-party contractors and the supervision thereof
  • A working understanding of local government operations
  • Ability to effectively prioritise work and manage time
  • Strong communication skills across various platforms
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Capability to learn new skills related to arboreal ICT software
  • Inclusive team player who can foster partnerships and collaborate effectively
  • Ability to conduct site visits and work in all weather conditions
  • National Diploma in Arboriculture or equivalent qualification

  • Working Model: Hybrid - mix of home and office/onsite client premises
  • Driving Requirements: Driving Licence & DVLA check; proof of business insurance
  • Compliance Requirements: Enhanced DBS
