Job description


Our client, a prominent player in the water industry, is seeking a Temporary Works Designer for their major wastewater infrastructure projects located in Leeds and Preston. This is a contract role under the AMP8 frameworks, suitable for professionals experienced in temporary works design within the water sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and review temporary works designs for wastewater treatment plants, pipelines, and associated infrastructure.
  • Ensure designs comply with CDM regulations, BS 5975, Eurocodes, and other relevant standards.
  • Collaborate with site teams, contractors, and third-party consultants to provide engineering support.
  • Conduct structural analysis and feasibility studies for temporary works solutions such as scaffolding, shoring, propping, formwork, and access systems.
  • Carry out risk assessments and ensure designs prioritise health and safety.
  • Support site inspections and audits, providing guidance on best practices for temporary works.
  • Liaise with Temporary Works Coordinators (TWC) to ensure correct implementation of designs.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience in temporary works design within water, utilities, or heavy civil engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of BS 5975 (Code of practice for temporary works procedures and the permissible stress design of falsework).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, Tedds, or similar design software.
  • Experience with load calculations, structural integrity checks, and stability assessments.
  • Ability to work remotely with occasional site visits in the Thames/London/Southern region.
  • Chartered or near-chartered status (ICE/IStructE) is desirable but not essential.
