Job description

Our client is currently seeking an S38 Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role involves ensuring that proposed highway schemes are designed, constructed, and implemented in compliance with statutory obligations, buisness policies, standards, and specifications for adoption as publicly maintainable highway.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and supervise junior team members engaged in design checking and processing S38/S278 Adoption applications
• Provide technical support to the processes and procedures operated within the team
• Assess applications and advise developers of the S38/S278 (Highways Act 1980) adoption process
• Support the provision of a high-quality and cost-effective engineering consultancy service for highway and other engineering-related schemes
• Contribute to the development of policies to ensure efficient service delivery, continuous improvement, and corporate objectives
• Promote and deliver solutions to achieving diversity and equality in all aspects of service delivery and community engagement, focusing on equality of outcome
• Ensure work is undertaken in accordance with legislation and the appropriate local, national, and corporate standards, policies, and practices
• Support the development of partnership working

Job Requirements:

• Experience in highway engineering and understanding of the S38/S278 (Highways Act 1980) adoption process
• Knowledge of design checking and engineering consultancy
• Understanding and appreciation of working within the requirements of the CDM regulations
• Familiarity with Health and Safety responsibilities
• Ability to support the development of policies and deliver high-quality solutions
• Commitment to promoting diversity and equality in service delivery
• Effective management and supervision skills
