Job description

Our client, a renowned consultancy in the transport planning sector, is seeking a Principal Transport Planner to join their team. This permanent role will see you contributing to a variety of projects ranging from small-scale local transport improvements to major road networks, rail, and sustainable travel schemes. You will work closely with private sector and local authority clients, providing essential advice on access and transportation, while supporting development proposals through the planning process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrating technical skills in areas such as transport policy and strategy, feasibility studies, option assessment, and business cases
  • Managing and prioritising multiple projects simultaneously
  • Leading project work, monitoring performance against budgets and programme timelines
  • Delegating tasks to junior team members effectively
  • Flexibly working across multiple northern office projects
  • Supporting senior staff and developing project management, commercial, and business development skills
  • Assisting in the training and management of Graduates and Apprentices

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in transport planning and transportation
  • Strong understanding of transport policies and strategies
  • Proficiency in conducting feasibility studies and business case evaluations
  • Ability to manage and delegate tasks within a team
  • Capability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience in working with both private sector and local authority clients
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in transportation or related field
