Job description

Our client, a leading company in the aerospace industry, is currently seeking a Shop Floor Manager - Panels Assembly. The role is essential for ensuring the efficient delivery of production plans, maximising On Time Start (OTS) and On Time Finish (OTF), and optimising team organisation. This is a permanent position with early working hours from Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will be responsible for general and operations management within the panels assembly department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • EHS: Promote a safe workplace environment, ensuring compliance with all Environmental, Health and Safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Clocking and Booking: Ensure accurate and timely recordings of time and attendance, as well as job costings.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain clean and organised workstations, with all tools and equipment stored correctly.
  • Quality: Uphold all quality standards, processes, and procedures, ensuring work is completed with care and minimal wastage.
  • Cost Management: Support cost reduction and management initiatives by reducing unnecessary expenditure.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Keep knowledge and training up to date, ensuring compliance with role specifications and standards.
  • Team Working: Actively participate in team meetings, share knowledge, coach and mentor trainees, and be flexible in learning other areas.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties that fall within the level of the role.

Specific Role Responsibilities:

  • Managing the Team: Lead and develop the team, ensuring compliance with internal safety and quality guidelines, and minimise staff absence and attrition.
  • Managing Production Activities: Plan and control production activities to meet operational objectives, maximising OTS and OTF, and driving efficiency.
  • Developing Preventative Activities: Enforce preventive measures to reduce occupational and environmental risks.
  • Communication: Facilitate effective communication within the team, conveying operational objectives and action plans, and serve as the point of reference for day-to-day topics.
  • Ensuring Team Qualifications: Ensure team members have required qualifications and training.
  • Complying with Policies and Procedures: Enforce established procedures, policies, and systems, promoting improvements as needed.
  • Identifying Risk: Identify and mitigate potential risks affecting people, products, or equipment and escalate as necessary.
  • Analysing Indicators: Analyse production, maintenance, and quality indicators, prioritise improvement plans, and lead implementation teams.
  • Energising Improvements: Propose and lead process, system, and organisation improvements.
  • Energising Meetings: Lead regular interdepartmental meetings to achieve maximum efficiency.

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience in a manufacturing supervisory position.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing management disciplines such as production and inventory control, and standard cost systems.
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, capable of communicating at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong influencing, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to develop and motivate a high-involvement team.

Desirable Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of production/manufacturing operations.
  • Knowledge and application of Six Sigma principles.
  • Prior experience with regulatory agencies and knowledge of requirements.
  • Knowledge of aerospace products, processes, customer requirements, and budgeting/financial processes.
