Job description

This role is pivotal in advancing our Carbon Neutral Plan, with various key priorities including exploring the commercial benefits of Renewables and Heat Networks, developing energy efficiency policies for homes and businesses, and assessing environmental standards in planning applications. With the Carbon Neutral Plan in its delivery phase, this is an exciting time to join the team.

You will act as a specialist adviser to services, embedding knowledge and expertise across the Council. Your responsibilities will include securing funding, developing solutions, procuring and monitoring the delivery of sustainability projects, and leading engagement with the Climate Network. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to grow the Royal Borough's understanding of sustainability issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and reviewing the Council's Carbon Neutral Plan
  • Preparing scope 1, 2, and 3 operational and borough emissions reporting with compliant governance processes
  • Formulating, developing, and delivering sustainability strategies and programmes
  • Presenting complex technical information clearly and convincingly
  • Managing contracts effectively
  • Securing sustainability funding
  • Engaging with the Climate Network
  • Embedding sustainability knowledge and expertise across the Council

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in monitoring and reviewing Carbon Neutral Plans
  • Proven experience in scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions reporting with compliant governance processes
  • Experience in the formulation, development, and delivery of sustainability strategies and programmes
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting complex technical information
  • Experience in contract management
  • Track record of securing sustainability funding
  • Knowledge and understanding of working in a Local Authority setting
