Job Title: Mechanical Inspector
Location: Basingstoke, Hampshire
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 07:30 - 16:30

  • Friday: 07:30 - 14:00
    (40 hours per week)

Salary:
Up to £17.50 per hour (dependent on experience)

Reports to: Inspection Team Leader

A leading precision engineering firm based in Basingstoke, specialising in the design and subcontract manufacture of high-precision components for the automotive and aerospace sectors. With over two decades of experience, the company has built a reputation for excellence, working with some of the most demanding clients in motorsport and high-performance engineering. Their core competencies include deep hole drilling, honing, forged piston manufacturing, and advanced coating technologies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect mechanical components and assemblies using a variety of precision measuring tools

  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications

  • Verify dimensional accuracy using hand-held tools, height gauges, bore gauges, and surface finish testers

  • Operate or assist with the operation of CMM (ideally Mitutoyo) for inspection routines

  • Record inspection results and complete associated documentation accurately

  • Work to quality control standards, preferably AS9100

  • Communicate effectively with the wider production and engineering teams to resolve quality issues


Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Advanced Apprenticeship or Higher Education Qualification in Mechanical Engineering preferred

  • Previous experience in a Mechanical or Quality Inspector role within a CNC machining or precision manufacturing environment is essential

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Proficient in the use of inspection tools and equipment

  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Solid Microsoft Office skills (especially Word and Excel)

  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards

  • Detail-oriented with strong communication and time management abilities
