Job description

Our client, a leading firm in the Defence and Security sector, is currently seeking a Principal Engineer - Structural Engineering to join their team for a contract role. This position is based in Barrow and offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects within the defence industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engaging in hull mechanics, steering, and outfit teams
• Working on projects including Dreadnought and SSNA
• Conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
• Performing hand calculations to support structural integrity
• Collaborating across three distinct teams
• Designing and analysing watertight doors, hatches, and scuttles
• Overseeing the structural design of control surfaces, rudder, bow planes, and shafting
• Providing input on furniture, habitability fixtures, cabin, galley, stowages, bunks, and walkways
• Mentoring and assisting junior team members

Job Requirements:

• Experience as a stress and structural engineer in the defence sector
• Strong background in structural design within a defence context
• Proficiency in FEA and hand calculations
• Familiarity with the design and analysis of closed and open structures such as watertight doors and control surfaces
• Ability to mentor and support less experienced engineers
• Effective teamwork and communication skills
