Job description

Our client, a leading organisation within the maritime defence sector, is currently seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join their dynamic team. This permanent role is based at the state-of-the-art Haslar Marine Technology Park, where pioneering technology and facilities support a range of marine solutions including surface ships, submarines, and renewable energy devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the engineering program lead and project management community to task and control work conducted by the technical team
  • Manage technical tasking within agreed quality, timescale, and budget parameters
  • Develop capabilities within your areas of expertise and mentor others in the wider engineering and technical communities
  • Encourage increased collaboration across groups and wider technical teams
  • Work with other functions, such as Safety Engineering, to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, company and project-specific processes
  • Identify and develop joint technical strategies with partner organisations, supporting overall Business Development and Sales strategy
  • Ensure consistent application of governance across technical programs, acting as a peer/independent reviewer where suitable

Job Requirements:

  • Proficient in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of structures and systems
  • Experience with non-ferrous metals and composite materials, design, and manufacturing
  • Competency in FEA software, ideally Abaqus
  • Proficient in CAD software
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary project teams
  • Experience in subsurface and defence platform design is advantageous but not essential
