Job description
Location: Heathrow
Salary: £70,000 - £85,000 + BUPA Medical + 28 Days Holiday + Pension
We're hiring a Senior Maintenance Engineering Manager to lead and develop the engineering function at our flagship 30,000 sqm industrial kitchen site in Heathrow. This high-throughput operation supports daily production for thousands of meals-from chilled sandwiches to complex plated dishes-serving a workforce of around 2,700 on-site staff.
This is a hands-on leadership role. We're looking for someone with strong technical knowledge and a proactive approach to driving reliability, compliance, and performance across the plant. You'll lead an in-house engineering team and oversee a large group of external contractors to ensure the site runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
-
Maintain and improve critical systems: steam boilers, refrigeration, AHUs, DAF plant, MEIKO dishwashers, and electrical infrastructure (including substations)
-
Ensure full compliance with maintenance legislation and internal standards (PPMs, electrical checks, documentation)
-
Identify training needs and improve engineering team capability
-
Be available for urgent issues-while not on-call formally, the role requires emergency availability due to operational criticality
-
Manage and develop a core team of 8 engineers (expanding to 11-15)
-
Oversee 50-60 contractors across gas, electrical, waste, and other technical areas
What We're Looking For
-
Experience you have with boilers, refrigeration, air handling units and waste units
-
Experience with legal compliance (electrical, maintenance, safety)
-
Experience managing internal and external stake holders
- Able to interpret data to make decisions
Benefits
-
Salary: £70,000 - £85,000 (DOE)
-
BUPA medical insurance
-
28 days holiday
-
Company pension scheme
