Introduction

Field Service Technician will include; performing preventative maintenance duties on low and medium voltage switchgear and automatic transfer switches using specified test equipment.

The Job

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform all aspects of testing and maintenance of electrical power distribution systems
  • Perform instrument transformer tests, power transformer testing, automatic transfer switch troubleshooting, low and medium voltage circuit breaker testing, all equipment associated with distribution equipment testing
  • Perform installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of protective relaying equipment
  • Completion of assigned project field preventative maintenance activities are successfully completed on time and meet customer functional requirements
  • Startup, modify and troubleshoot Automatic Transfer Switches and Controllers (ATSs)
  • Build, develop and maintain exemplary customer and vendor relationships while maintaining a high level of quality and technical service
  • Provide detailed and timely follow-up to customer requests
  • Ability to track and submit project reports in a timely manner (Field Reports and Expenses)
  • Support Technical Call Desk for customers
  • Develop written standard testing and maintenance procedures for breaker, switchgear and relay testing
  • Recommend design modifications of equipment and provide instruction for installation
  • QA review of engineering drawings
  • Ensure all corporate policies, including quality, and health and safety guidelines are followed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 5+ years of hands on experience installing, maintaining, testing, & repairing circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and similar equipment.
  • Must have general PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Word, Excel and OneNote as well as ability to use a smartphone to perform daily work tasks
  • Basic understanding and ability to interpret detailed electrical schematics & mechanical drawings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in remote locations
  • NETA/NICET Certified (ETT Level III or higher) in electrical equipment testing
  • Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E training

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Technical degree in Electrical or Electronics or equivalent of 3+ years of technical experience in the Power Generation Industry (or similar industry) and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee)
  • Design application and operation of low and medium voltage paralleling switchgear systems is required
  • Knowledge of programming control and automation equipment typically used in power generation systems or similar industries (e.g. PLC, HMI Displays, engine controllers, protective relays, load sharing/synchronizing controllers)

Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check
  • Must have a valid driver's license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record
  • Must be able to crawl, climb, stand and lift up to 75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Must be available for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, holidays and nights
  • U.S. Passport & TWIC card a plus
  • Must be an American citizen or have a current visa and reside in the United States
