Mechanical Design Engineer
I am looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with 3D CAD Skills (Solidworks) preferably from an Aerospace / Automotive background but this is not essential. .
Job Title - Mechanical Design Engineer
The company has a unique position as supplier of fully integrated test rigs for the certification of aircraft fuel systems and key components such as engine fuel pumps and management units, the company also designs and supplies specialised tooling in to the aerospace and automotive industry including jigs, fixtures and associated assembly tooling.
Your position will be within the test rig design and build facility, this will suit a Degree Qualified Mechanical Design Engineer or someone capable of demonstrating equivalent expertise.
Ideally you will have experience of Engineering design in a low volume high complexity aerospace manufacturing environment but this is not essential.
It is essential that you have appreciation of design drawing and engineering standards and experience of taking a concept through design development via a formal design review structure, in a DFM (Design For Manufacture)environment.
You will be capable of working with prestigious customers, usually first tier aerospace OEMs, and senior in-house engineers, to complete system and component designs to achieve the customer's design requirements. Also there are in house engineering tasks, developing new solutions to improve both the products and the capability of the equipment, as well as contributing to the efficiency of the facility as a whole.
You will be working with senior engineers within the MRO department.
You will have experience of configuration control, design management and modification / change procedures.
The right individual will be able to take a leading role in understanding legacy designs, and be capable of working closely with System Engineers, whether hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical to collectively optimise the concept and configuration of modifications to existing rigs.
You will be pro active in creating and maintain 3D Solidworks based models of components and assemblies and be able to produce new, innovative and original ideas to improve both the products and the engineering processes.
You will be fully competent with creating and maintaining 2D manufacturing drawings, establishing the Multi-Level BOMs to a consistent method and managing the data as it is delivered to internal or external manufacturers.
You will lead in the creation of parts libraries which will hold key common components and subassemblies and implement them in solidworks PDM.
You will need to have the following skill to be considered for the role -
- Strong 3D CAD skills (Solidworks) and will be experienced in creating parts, assemblies detailed drawings and complex BOM's
- Experience of designing hydro mechanical systems which will include valves, pipework, instrumentation and pneumatics. (For this you should be capable of using the routing package within solidworks and be capable of creating smart components and assemblies.)
- Experience of drive trains including motors, pumps and gearboxes but again not essential.
- Experience of CNC and CAM manufacture, metal fabrication, machining and assembly and the use of the weldments environment.
- PDM implementation.
- Composer - Catia Programme experience.
