My client, a large Nuclear Fusion company, have an unique opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer with Remote Handling/Robotic equipment experience.

The Job

My client are seeking a Remote Handling Operations Engineer to work as part of the team that use the remotely operated and robotic systems designed. Some of this equipment is used to maintain the inside of a fusion reactor. During operations you will support the supervision of a small team of skilled operators, ensuring safe and efficient operations. During this time you will gain unique remote handling operations experience.

As an RH operations engineer you will have worked in a mechanically biased environment, preferable with an element of hands on. You will have experience in using and writing detailed step by step procedures. Knowledge of working with remotely operated or robotic systems would be an advantage. - Feasibility assessment of potential remote handling sub tasks
- Derivation of operational methods for remote handling tasks
- Specification of requirement for physical and virtual mock-ups
- Specification and issue of sequence descriptions and remote handling operating procedures
- Specification of requirement for physical and virtual mock-ups
- Deputise in the supervision of operating personnel during all remote handling operations
- Reporting and presentation of work
- Development engineering in support of RH technology diversification programme
- Developing & writing assembly procedures
- Developing & writing testing and commissioning procedures.
- Monitoring progress and quality of both sub-contract and in-house manufacturing & assembly ensuring compliance to site standards
- Commissioning & trouble-shooting hardware builds
Essential Aptitudes and Experience - Recognised qualification in mechanical engineering at HND or degree level (or equivalent) OR equivalent practical experience.

- Previous experience in managing and supervising technician level staff.

- Experience in generating formal procedures and documentation.

- An understanding of Written Safe System of Work and its use to control plant and personnel risks.

- Experience in using Microsoft Office to an intermediate level.

- Ability to work as part of a team.

Desirable Experience - Experience in the use of remote handling or robotic systems. E.g. through the wall manipulators, remotely operated transporters, production line robots.

- Experienced in hands on maintenance of complex mechanical systems.

- Experience of working in hazardous environments.

- Experience in supervising small teams carrying out technical activities.
