Our client is recruiting for a Flood Risk Engineer (or Senior Engineer) to manage the design process from inception to detail design for the construction of new surface water management/flood alleviation projects.

The Job

Job Summary

Our client specialises in providing sustainable infrastructure solutions from initial concept, through planning and delivery on site. A key element to the role will be the understanding and managing of the design process from inception to detail design for the construction of new surface water management/flood alleviation projects, drainage strategies and producing and checking Flood Risk Assessments.

Our clients' Water Team specialises in providing advice to both public and private sector clients on planning and design issues relating to Flood Risk, as well as the detailed design of Flood Protection, SuDS and Sewerage schemes on Residential, Retail, Industrial, Commercial Developments and Public sector projects throughout the UK.

In recent years we have assisted government agencies with respect to failure of oil storage facilities whether above or below ground. This is a new and exciting area of the business which the successful candidate will be expected to take part in.

Principal Accountabilities

You will have a minimum of 4 to 8 years' experience and your principal role will be the day to day project management of your own projects and clients. The role will also require you to prepare Flood Risk Assessments, undertake conceptual and detail design of flood protection measures and drainage strategies, leading to planning applications, tender and construction drawings. You can expected to be active on a number of projects / client accounts at any given time. You will be expected to mentor and develop junior engineers. This role is client facing and you will be both competent and confident in managing clients. You will assist and separately produce fee proposals and verify work. A key element of your experience will be the design of flood alleviation schemes, foul and surface water/SuDS systems using the WinDES software package. Experience in the design of MAP-Info and or QGIS together with highways design and earthworks strategies would be an advantage.

You will report to an Associate or Director

Preferred Qualifications/Education

You will hold a degree in Civil Engineering or appropriate science or equivalent commercial experience and responsibility. You will either have or be approaching CEng (MICE, or CIWEM) status or equivalent commercial experience.

Preferred Competencies/Skills

  • Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments in Flood Zone 1, 2 and 3;
  • Undertake conceptual and detail design of surface water and fluvial flood mitigation works;
  • Preparation of complex foul and surface water drainage strategies (which incorporate SuDS techniques) to a detailed design standard (suitable for outline/detailed planning and s104 submission);
  • Expert knowledge of WinDes software Package;
  • Competent in the use of AutoCAD;

Project Management;

  • You will need to have good written and spoken communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.

Knowledge: I

Ideally you will be well versed in the preparation of detailed drawings for Flood Risk Assessments, flood alleviation schemes, foul and surface water drainage strategies and aware of Current Policy and industry standard guidance (NPPF, PPG, FWMA 2010, WIA 1991, LDA 1991 etc,), and S104 Agreements.

Previous Experience:

Consultancy background with a heavy bias on private sector work, candidates with no design experience will not be considered.
